Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck While Crossing University Avenue in Riverside

Riverside, CA (March 13, 2026) — A tragic traffic accident on University Avenue claims the life of a male pedestrian Wednesday.

According to the Riverside Police Department, the collision happened shortly before 8 a.m. along University Avenue near Victoria Avenue.

Investigators said the man tried to cross University Avenue outside of a designated crosswalk. As he stepped from the sidewalk into the westbound lanes, a BMW 3 Series traveling along the roadway struck him.

The driver remained at the scene and waited for emergency crews. Paramedics arrived quickly and transported the victim to Riverside Community Hospital with critical injuries. Sadly, he died less than an hour later.

Authorities confirmed the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was not taken into custody. Officers temporarily closed the westbound lanes of University Avenue while investigators examined the scene.
