Man Pushing Disabled Car Killed by Suspected Impaired Driver in Tucson

Tucson, AZ (November 17, 2025) — 35-year-old Adrian Avalos died after a speeding sedan sideswiped his disabled vehicle on Speedway Boulevard in Tucson.

Police and paramedics responded to the 500 block of Speedway Blvd near Main Avenue, where Avalos was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.

Investigators say Avalos’ car had broken down in the eastbound lanes, and he, two acquaintances, and a good Samaritan were pushing it along the curb lane. Avalos was walking beside the driver’s door when the crash occurred.

According to Tucson police, a 72-year-old man driving a sedan in the median lane drifted into the curb lane at high speed. The impact killed Avalos and shifted the disabled vehicle into the three men helping him, leaving them with minor injuries. They were treated at the scene. The driver of the sedan also sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

A DUI officer determined the driver showed signs of impairment, and the investigation remains ongoing.
