HOUSTON, TX (May 27, 2026) – Tuesday, 5 people were hospitalized after an alarming 18-wheeler crash on US 290 at Eldridge.

The incident involving an 18-wheeler happened on the westbound lanes of US 290 at Eldridge.

The Cy-Fair Fire Department said emergency crews were working to clear the crash scene, but westbound lanes remained completely shut down.

In an update issued at 3:44 p.m., the Texas Department of Transportation said the main lanes were expected to remain closed for several hours and advised drivers to seek alternate routes.

Cy-Fair FD also said HAZMAT crews responded to help contain a fuel spill. Five people were transported to hospitals, though authorities said all are expected to be okay.

Photos released by officials showed an overturned 18-wheeler, scattered pallets across the roadway, and tire debris thrown over the barricade.

Authorities have not yet released details on what caused the crash.
