Injuries Reported in Harlingen Auto Accident on 11400 Mile 17 Road North

HARLINGEN, TX (July 29, 2026) – Monday night, an alarming ATV crash on 11400 Mile 17 Road North sent 3 people to the hospital.

The incident happened at around 8:40 p.m. in the 11400 block of Mile 17 Road North in Elsa.

According to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, three men were injured after the all-terrain vehicle they were riding rolled over into a canal.

Deputies arrived to find crews from the Elsa Fire Department and EMS providing aid to the victims. All three men were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.

Elsa Fire Chief Jonathan Lopez said it is illegal to ride along canal banks because they are privately owned by the Hidalgo County Irrigation District.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office reminded the public to operate ATVs safely by wearing appropriate safety equipment, avoiding excessive speeds and hazardous terrain, and using the vehicles only for their intended purposes.
