Injuries Reported in Gaviota Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 near Gaviota Tunnel

GAVIOTA, CA (October 15, 2025) – Sunday night, a woman suffered injuries in an alarming auto accident on Highway 101 near Gaviota Tunnel.

The incident involving three vehicles happened at about 9:15 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 101, just north of the Gaviota tunnel, said fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.

A woman was seriously injured when the vehicle she was riding in struck a deer, according to authorities.

She was taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Her name and details about her condition have not been released.

No injuries were reported in the other vehicles involved, said Safechuck. The right-hand lane of the highway was closed for a time while the California Highway Patrol investigated the crash.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
