Injuries Reported in Merced Pedestrian Accident on South Venus Street

MERCED COUNTY, CA (March 18, 2026) – Monday night, an alarming pedestrian crash on South Venus Street sent 2 children to the hospital.

The incident happened at about 6:00 p.m. on South Venus Street in Santa Nella.

A preliminary investigation found that a 36-year-old man from Gustine was driving a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria southbound on South Venus Street at an unknown speed when he failed to stop for two children, ages 5 and 2, who were in the roadway.

The children were taken by their parents to a hospital before being transferred to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera. Authorities said both suffered serious injuries and are listed in stable but critical condition.

The driver left the scene, reportedly out of concern for his safety, and was later contacted by officers in a parking lot.

The investigation remains ongoing.
