2 People Hospitalized after Alarming Vehicle Crash on Interstate 70 and Prospect Avenue [Kansas City, MO]

Injuries Reported in Kansas City Auto Accident on Interstate 70 and Prospect Avenue

KANSAS CITY, MO (July 6, 2026) – Sunday morning, an alarming vehicle crash on Interstate 70 and Prospect Avenue sent 2 people to the hospital.

The incident happened just before 4:00 a.m. on westbound Interstate 70 and Prospect Avenue, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

According to police, a white Infiniti was stopped on the shoulder with its hazard lights activated when the crash occurred.

Investigators said the Infiniti’s driver was standing near the rear of the vehicle when a Ford sedan veered onto the shoulder and struck the parked car, pinning the driver between the two vehicles.

The Infiniti driver sustained critical injuries and was transported to a hospital. The Ford driver was also taken to a hospital for evaluation.

The Kansas City Police Department said preliminary findings indicate impairment may have contributed to the crash.

Westbound Interstate 70 was closed for more than two hours following the collision, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation. The investigation remains ongoing.
