Big Rig Driver Injured in Deadly Texico Crash

Texico, NM (January 25, 2026) — A big rig driver was hurt and 21-year-old Alec Alderete died following a crash on State Street on Wednesday evening in Texico.

According to the Curry County Sheriff’s Office, say that Alderete was driving south on State Street when he failed to stop at the intersection with Wheeler Avenue and crashed into a semi-truck. Alderete died at the scene.

Reports say that the semi-truck driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Plains Regional Medical Center, where he received treatment and was later released.

Authorities reported that Alderete was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and they are also investigating whether alcohol played a role.

The crash remains under investigation.
