Injuries Reported in Bakersfield 2-Vehicle Crash
Bakersfield, CA (June 14, 2025) – 23-year-old Alejandro Manriquez-Chavez of Bakersfield was killed in a DUI crash on Highway 178 early Friday morning.
The fatal rear-end crash happened at 1:03 a.m. west of Beale Avenue.
According to CHP, a Saturn Ion with two people inside was parked along the right shoulder of eastbound freeway.
At the same time, a Hyundai Santa Fe was speeding on the eastbound freeway toward the Saturn.
The Hyundai driver drifted onto the right shoulder and rear-ended the Saturn. Both vehicles overturned in traffic lanes.
Alejandro Manriquez-Chavez, the Saturn’s driver, died at the crash scene.
The other occupant of the Saturn sustained minor to moderate injuries and was transported to Kern Medical Hospital.
Moreover, the driver of the Hyundai incurred minor injuries and was transported to Kern Medical Hospital.
CHP believes alcohol was a factor in this fatal crash.
