Van Driver Dies in Collision with Semi-Truck in Mesa

Mesa, AZ (September 19, 2025) — Authorities identified Alex Bussing as the van driver that died in a tragic crash between a van and a semi-truck that shut down Higley Road in Mesa for hours on Thursday morning.

Emergency crews responded around 6:20 a.m. to the intersection of Brown and Higley roads. Authorities said the van driver, identified as Bussing, died at the scene. The semi-truck driver was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.

The crash forced a closure of Higley Road for more than eight hours. Southbound lanes reopened just before 3 p.m., while northbound lanes remain closed for cleanup. Police confirmed that weather was not a factor in the collision. Detectives continue to investigate what caused the crash.
