Driver Amelia Reyes Mendoza Declared Dead in US 77 Multi-Vehicle Crash [Milam County, TX]

Milam County, TX (May 13, 2026) – 68-year-old Amelia Reyes Mendoza of Cameron was fatally injured following a US 77 multi-vehicle crash Monday morning.

It was past 9 a.m. on May 11 when the collision involving five vehicles happened at Milam County Road 203 Loop.

Troopers said an eastbound traffic was stopped by a construction crew flagger as part of a TXDOT road project.

That is when a 2018 Dodge SUV, driven by a 40-year-old man from Killeen, was approaching the stopped traffic. 

At the same time, a 2023 Chevrolet SUV, driven by Mendoza was stopped in traffic.

Officers said the Dodge failed to control speed and rear-ended the Chevrolet, which resulted in a chain reaction crash involving three other vehicles. 

Immediately, police responded to the scene and declared Amelia Reyes Mendoza deceased.

Rescuers rushed five people to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple.

Officers are conducting a further investigation into the fatal crash.
