Texas Student Survives Hit-and-Run Crash on Highway 151
San Antonio, TX (September 14, 2026) — 22-year-old Amethyst Delgado survived a serious hit-and-run crash Sept. 3 while driving home from work on Highway 151 in San Antonio.
Delgado said traffic was slowing near an exit shortly before 9 p.m. when a white truck approached quickly from behind and struck her vehicle. The impact pushed her car into another vehicle, then into a guardrail and off the highway. Her car landed upside down.
Delgado escaped through a shattered passenger-side window and called for help after the truck and the other involved vehicle left the scene. Emergency responders took her to the hospital, where doctors found no broken bones but treated extensive bruising, swelling, and open wounds.
The crash also left Delgado facing significant financial difficulties. She still owes about $2,000 on her damaged vehicle and has started receiving help through an online fundraiser. Investigators continue working to identify the hit-and-run driver.
Do The Right Thing. Stay. Help. Take Responsibility.
A hit-and-run is not just a crime but a devastating act of cowardice, leaving victims injured, scared, and sometimes fighting for their lives. If you’re involved in a traffic accident, stop immediately. Call 911. Help those who are hurt.
Remember that fleeing the scene only worsens the situation and carries serious legal consequences, including felony charges. Victims deserve accountability and justice.
Always remain at the scene after a crash. Drivers involved in collisions should stop, call 911 when necessary, and provide assistance rather than leaving an injured person behind.
Steps to Take When You’ve Been in a Car Accident
If you get into a traffic accident, it can be a frightening situation, and many people do not know what to do afterwards, which may have a big impact on your safety as well as your rights.
First, assess yourself and others for injuries. If anyone is hurt, call 911 immediately. If you can move your vehicle, do so in a safe location, and put on your hazard lights to warn other drivers. Exchange details with the other driver, such as names, numbers, insurance company information, and license plate numbers. (And if there are witnesses nearby, try to get their information, too.)
Photograph the scene, damage to the vehicles, and any injuries. If the damage appears to be minor, document everything anyway.
Then get medical care — even if you feel fine. Some injuries can have a delayed presentation. Lastly, reach out to a seasoned personal injury lawyer, such as Sweet Lawyers. They’ll explain your legal rights and navigate the insurance claims process, so you can focus on what’s most important.
Those minutes after a crash are critical. Staying calm, acting swiftly, and figuring out what kind of aid is available could help protect your health, your finances, and your future.
