Father and Child Injured in Bakersfield Parking Lot Incident on East California Avenue

BAKERSFIELD, CA (November 4, 2025) – Monday afternoon, Andres Serna was arrested after a startling DUI crash on East California Avenue.

The incident happened at about 12:09 p.m. in the 1400 block of East California Avenue.

Police said a preliminary investigation found that a black Nissan pickup traveling west on East California Avenue, just east of Haley Street, veered off the roadway for unknown reasons.

The truck went through a fence and into a parking lot at the northeast corner, where a food truck was set up. A man and his 8-year-old son were struck by the vehicle.

The father suffered moderate injuries, while the child sustained life-threatening injuries. Both were taken to a hospital.

Investigators said the driver, 33-year-old Andres Serna, was under the influence of alcohol. He was taken to a hospital with a minor injury and will be booked into the Lerdo Justice Facility after his release on DUI-related charges.
