Andy Burt Injured in Horrific Hit-and-Run on Yelm Highway [Olympia, WA]

Olympia, WA (October 11, 2025) — Authorities are searching for the driver responsible for a hit-and-run crash in Olympia that left Andy Burt injured and killed his dog Thursday evening.

According to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, a gray Kia sedan struck Burt and his dog, Kevin, as they were crossing Yelm Highway Southeast and Donovan Drive Southeast around 9 p.m. Burt was wearing a light-up vest and carrying a flashlight when the car sped past stopped vehicles and hit them in the crosswalk.

The impact broke Burt’s foot and fatally injured his dog. A bystander took Kevin to a veterinarian, but the dog did not survive.

Burt’s family has since launched a fundraiser to cover medical expenses and Kevin’s cremation costs. Any remaining funds will be donated to the Tacoma Humane Society, where Kevin had been adopted.
