Angel Daniel Salgado Velasquez Arrested in Tragic Hit-and-Run Crash on 43rd Street and Interstate 805 [San Diego, CA]

2 Kids Dead in San Diego Auto Accident on 43rd Street and Interstate 805

SAN DIEGO, CA (December 9, 2023) – Friday night, authorities arrested Angel Daniel Salgado Velasquez after a fatal hit-and-run crash on 43rd Street and Interstate 805.

The incident started when authorities attempted to pull over a BMW sedan that was traveling at a high rate of speed near 32nd Street and Ocean View Boulevard in Logan Heights.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the officers started a pursuit after the BMW refused to yield. Then, the BMW collided with a Honda sedan after exiting onto 43rd Street from southbound Interstate 805.

Also, the force of the crash pushed both vehicles to roll over down an embankment and struck a tree that fell onto the Honda and erupted into flames.

Moreover, paramedics rushed two young occupants of the Honda, an 8 and a 4-year-old, to a hospital where the patients were later pronounced dead. Then, responders transported two female occupants of the Honda, the 25-year-old driver and a 29-year-old passenger, to a hospital with unknown injuries.

Furthermore, officers managed to manage to arrest the driver of the BMW, 20-year-old Velasquez, who attempted to run from the crash.

Meanwhile, the crash closed southbound I-805 off-ramp but has long since reopened.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
