Driver Arturo Vela Arrested in Hit-and-Run Crash on E 11th Street [Big Spring, TX]

Big Spring, TX (June 10, 2025) – The authorities arrested Arturo Vela following a hit-and-run crash on E 11th Street Monday morning.

The authorities responded around 9 a.m. to the crash scene at the 700 block area.

Officers said they received reports of a male juvenile being hit by a Dodge Ram 2500 pick-up truck.

The truck driver, Arturo Vela, attempted to flee the scene and crashed onto a telephone pole further down 11th Street. 

Troopers said a witness intervened by confronting and removing Vela’s keys from the vehicle.

Immediately, the victim was transported to Scenic Mountain Medical Center with minor injuries and was later released.

Vela is charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, from the act of striking the minor with the vehicle.
