12-Year-Old Boy Airlifted After Being Struck by SUV in Ellsinore
Ellsinore, MO (April 11, 2026) — On Thursday afternoon, a 12-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after an auto-pedestrian crash on Route V in Ellsinore, Missouri.
The crash happened around 3:52 p.m. along Route V, where the boy and two other children were in a marked crosswalk. Authorities said an SUV failed to yield, hitting the group and leaving the boy critically hurt.
Emergency responders provided immediate aid before airlifting the injured boy to a hospital in St. Louis for urgent treatment.
Two other children—a 12-year-old girl from Van Buren and a 13-year-old girl from Poplar Bluff—sustained minor injuries and received care at the scene.
Law enforcement quickly launched a search and later located the driver and vehicle. Investigators identified the driver as a 36-year-old woman from Ellsinore. Officials placed her on a 24-hour investigative hold as the case remains under investigation.
Stop Pedestrian Accidents
To help avoid pedestrian accidents, drivers and pedestrians alike should be increasingly vigilant and watch out for each other. Drivers have to make sure to slow down in crowded areas, watch for people crossing and not get distracted, like by texting.
Pedestrians should cross only where they are supposed to, heed the traffic lights and attempt to establish eye contact with drivers before they step off the curb. If you’re walking at night, wear something bright or reflective so you’re easier to see. Do not walk and use a phone, or wear headphones, on the road.
Pedestrian safety is critical, especially in marked crosswalks. Drivers must remain alert and yield to pedestrians at all times, while parents should remind children to stay cautious and aware when crossing roads.
