Columbia Mayor Barbara Buffaloe Involved in Collision on University Avenue [Columbia, MO]

Columbia, MO (June 26, 2026) – Columbia Mayor Barbara Buffaloe was involved in a multi-vehicle collision on University Avenue Thursday.

The traffic accident happened on June 18 on College Avenue.

According to the authorities, a 2027 Hyundai Sonata driven by Ava Schweser was southbound on College Avenue when it approached the intersection with University Avenue.

Police said Schweser failed to stop at a solid red light and struck a westbound 2025 Hyundai Ioniq driven by Buffaloe. 

Buffaloe’s vehicle was then hit a city bus.

The bus driver, Edin Kajtaz, said he saw the Sonata struck Buffaloe’s vehicle. He sustained pain on the left side of his body and was taken to University Hospital.

Moreover, one passenger in one of the vehicles sustained a pain around their neck.  

The accident report stated that bot Hyundais were towed from the crash scene.
