Elk Grove, CA (July 18, 2026) — Authorities have identified 78-year-old Barbara Lee Jury as the woman who died in a suspected DUI head-on collision Thursday night in Elk Grove.

The crash happened around 9:15 p.m. on Elk Grove Boulevard near Stonelake Club Drive. Police said Jury was driving eastbound when a silver sedan traveling westbound crossed into the opposite lane. The vehicle struck the center median, became airborne, and crashed head-on into Jury’s car.

Jury suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The impact caused severe damage to her vehicle, which overturned in the center median.

Investigators believe the 51-year-old Sacramento woman driving the silver sedan had been fleeing a hit-and-run collision that happened earlier along Elk Grove Boulevard near Franklin Boulevard. Authorities also suspect alcohol played a role in the crash.

The suspected driver was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police said criminal charges may be filed as the investigation continues and her condition improves. Her identity has not been released.
