Frightening Bicycle Crash Near Interstate 8 Led to Injury [San Diego, CA]

San Diego, CA (October 05, 2025) — A 70-year-old bicyclist suffered major injuries Friday afternoon after a horrific crash near Interstate 8 in San Diego.

The crash happened around 2:45 p.m. in the 4100 block of Sports Arena Boulevard. Police said the man was turning left out of the bike lane when he entered the path of a northbound 1992 Mazda pickup driven by a 29-year-old man.

Paramedics transported the bicyclist to the hospital with fractured ribs, a broken tibia, a fibula fracture, and a collapsed lung. The driver of the pickup remained at the scene.

San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division is continuing the investigation.
