1 Dead in Oceanside Bicycle Accident on Douglas Drive near El Camino Real

OCEANSIDE, CA (March 16, 2023) – Tuesday night, a person died in a bicycle crash on Douglas Drive near El Camino Real.

The incident happened before 5:19 p.m. on Douglas Drive near El Camino Real.

The Oceanside Police Department confirmed that all southbound lanes of Douglas Drive were closed from El Camino Real to Mission Avenue. After several hours, the lanes have since reopened.

Meanwhile, the preliminary investigation revealed that a bicycle rider traveled on Douglas Drive, on or near the sidewalk. Then, a motorist struck him.

Reports said that the male adult bicyclist was in his 50s. Also, officers confirmed that he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His identity remained undisclosed due to pending family notification.

Also, the motorist stayed at the scene of the crash. Authorities arrested him for suspicion of driving while under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.
