Teen Cyclist Injured After Being Struck by Vehicle Near Gilbert Elementary School
Gilbert, AZ (April 2, 2026) — A teenage girl was injured Tuesday afternoon after a frightening crash on Pecos Road near Centennial Elementary School in Gilbert.
The crash happened near the intersection of Pecos and Power roads. Authorities said the teen was hit by a vehicle and sustained injuries before responders transported her to a hospital, where she remained in stable condition.
Investigators noted that the girl was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. The driver stayed at the scene, and officials do not believe impairment played a role in the incident.
Police have since reopened the surrounding roadways as they continue to review what led to the crash.
Let’s Drive Safer Together
Every time you drive, you’re part of something bigger—a shared space where everyone depends on each other to stay safe. That’s why being a responsible driver matters. Staying alert, following traffic rules, and showing courtesy on the road can go a long way in preventing accidents and protecting lives.
Safe driving isn’t just about you. It’s about your passengers, the people in other vehicles, and even pedestrians you may never meet. When we all make the effort to slow down, stay focused, and avoid distractions, we create safer roads for everyone.
One simple habit can make a huge difference: wearing your seatbelt. It only takes a second, but it can save your life. Whether you’re in the driver’s seat or riding along, make it a non-negotiable part of every trip.
Be especially careful around vehicles stopped on the side of the road, particularly on highways or in low-visibility conditions. Reduce your speed, stay aware of your surroundings, and move over when you can. These precautions help prevent further accidents and keep everyone safer.
Bicyclists should always wear helmets and remain visible to drivers, especially near schools and busy intersections. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and stay alert in areas where children and cyclists are present.
