Bicyclist Killed in Overnight Collision on Weedpatch Highway Near Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA (June 6, 2025) — A 39-year-old bicyclist died early Thursday after a shocking traffic crash on Weedpatch Highway south of Eucalyptus Drive in Bakersfield.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to the scene around 12:14 a.m. on June 4. A preliminary investigation found that the bicyclist was traveling in the southbound lane of Weedpatch Highway when he stopped in the roadway.

At the same time, a 27-year-old man was driving a 2005 Infiniti sedan southbound and approached the bicycle. Investigators said limited lighting conditions and the bicyclist’s position in the lane contributed to the collision.

The impact threw the bicyclist from the bicycle, and he died from his injuries.

The Infiniti driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. CHP stated that alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors for the driver. Investigators have not determined whether impairment played a role for the bicyclist.

The crash remains under investigation.
