Police Investigate Crash at North First Street and Trimble Road in San Jose

SAN JOSE, CA (September 4, 2026) – A bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle in a crash at North First Street and Trimble Road early Friday morning, marking the second fatal bicycle collision reported in San Jose in two days.

According to the San Jose Police Department, officers responded at approximately 4:20 a.m. to reports of a vehicle-versus-bicyclist crash at the intersection.

Police said a man was driving a gray 2024 Toyota sedan westbound on Trimble Road and entered the intersection at North First Street on a green light.

At the same time, a man riding a bicycle was traveling northbound on North First Street in the intersection crosswalk.

The Toyota struck the bicyclist, who suffered fatal injuries. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released the bicyclist’s identity.

Police said the Toyota driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision.

The fatal crash came one day after another bicyclist died in San Jose. In that incident, a bicyclist was involved in a collision with a Freightliner dump truck near Tully Road and Lanai Avenue at approximately 7:45 a.m. Thursday.

Police reported that the two incidents represented San Jose’s 32nd and 33rd fatal traffic collisions and traffic-related deaths of the year.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Friday’s North First Street and Trimble Road collision.
