WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (September 3, 2026)– A bicyclist was injured in a crash on Birch Bay-Lynden Road early Thursday morning, and authorities later arrested the driver on suspicion of impaired driving.

First responders were dispatched at approximately 4:50 a.m. on September 3 to Birch Bay-Lynden Road between Kickerville Road and Hamm Road following reports of a vehicle-versus-bicycle collision.

According to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel transported the injured bicyclist to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham for treatment. Authorities did not immediately release additional information regarding the bicyclist’s condition.

Investigators identified the vehicle driver as a 56-year-old Blaine man.

The Sheriff’s Office said the driver showed signs of impairment at the scene. Deputies took him into custody and transported him to St. Joseph Medical Center before booking him into the Whatcom County Jail.

Authorities charged the driver with driving under the influence and vehicular assault. The charges are allegations, and the legal process will determine the outcome of the case.
