Big Rig Crash on Interstate 70 Results in Injury [Odessa, TX]

Odessa, TX (May 16, 2025) — On Thursday afternoon, a multi-semi crash on Interstate 70 WB near Odessa caused major traffic delays and left one driver with serious injuries.

The collision happened around 1:25 p.m. near mile marker 35.8 in Lafayette County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, traffic had slowed on westbound I-70 when a 2024 Peterbilt tractor-trailer crashed into the rear of a stopped 2015 Mack tractor-trailer.

The force of the impact overturned the Mack before it struck the tow unit of a third semi-truck, identified as a 2005 Kenworth.

Authorities said the Mack driver, a 50-year-old man from Columbia, Missouri, suffered serious injuries in the crash. Emergency crews transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The wreck shut down portions of westbound I-70 for hours as crews cleared the scene. Officials diverted traffic onto Missouri Route 131 while congestion built through the area.
