SAN JOSE, CA (April 1, 2026) – Early Sunday, a teen boy was arrested after a fatal DUI crash on Curtner Avenue near Highway 87.

The incident happened at about 1:05 a.m. on Curtner Avenue near Highway 87.

San Jose police said a 17-year-old boy driving a 2022 Honda Accord westbound on Curtner Avenue collided with a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu that was turning onto the eastbound lanes from the southbound Highway 87 off-ramp.

The driver of the Chevy was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not released pending confirmation and notification of family members by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

The teen driver and a female passenger were taken to a hospital and are expected to survive. After receiving treatment, police said the boy was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter and booked into Juvenile Hall.

Authorities said the crash marked San Jose’s 10th traffic fatality of the year, compared to seven at the same time in 2025.
