FRESNO, CA (May 5, 2026) – Sunday, a 14-year-old boy was hospitalized after an alarming mini bike crash on Shields Avenue and West Avenue.

The crash involving a mini bike and a vehicle happened at about 7:30 p.m. on Shields Avenue and West Avenue.

A 14-year-old boy was hospitalized after a crash involving a vehicle and a mini bike at the intersection of Shields and West avenues, according to the Fresno Police Department.

Lt. Zeb Price said the crash happened around 7:30 p.m., when traffic signals were flashing red in all directions. A driver heading north on West Avenue stopped, then proceeded into the intersection, while the teen, riding a gas-powered mini bike east on Shields, entered at the same time and collided with the vehicle.

The impact threw the teen from the mini bike, causing significant injuries. First responders initially believed he may have been unconscious, but he was later reported to be conscious and communicating with medical staff at the hospital.

The driver remained at the scene. Police said the incident comes shortly after another serious crash involving young riders, raising concerns about the safety of e-bikes and mini bikes.

Authorities continue to investigate.
