1 Dead in San Diego E-Bike Accident on Olney Street and Balboa Avenue

SAN DIEGO, CA (September 15, 2026) – Saturday night, a 14-year-old boy died in a horrific e-bike crash on Olney Street and Balboa Avenue.

The incident happened at about 9:20 p.m. on Olney Street and Balboa Avenue.

The teenager was riding a Zooz e-bike northbound when he entered the intersection at Balboa Avenue against a red traffic signal, according to the San Diego Police Department.

At the same time, a 38-year-old man was driving a 2023 Tesla Model 3 westbound on Balboa Avenue in the right lane. The Tesla struck the bicyclist in the intersection, police said.

The teenager was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.

SDPD’s Traffic Unit is investigating. Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
