1 Person Killed in Brutal 2-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 15

1 Dead in Newberry Springs Auto Accident on Interstate 15 and Harvard Road

NEWBERRY SPRINGS, CA (July 6, 2026) – Sunday afternoon, a person died in a brutal 2-vehicle crash on Interstate 15 and Harvard Road.

The incident happened at around 12:10 p.m. on northbound Interstate 15, south of Harvard Road.

One person was killed, and at least three others were critically injured, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Dispatch information indicated the collision involved a Toyota and a silver Nissan hatchback. Both vehicles came to rest in the center divider, with debris scattered across the freeway.

Emergency responders were initially alerted by an iPhone crash detection notification. Authorities later determined one occupant was trapped inside the Nissan, where firefighters confirmed the person had died and carried out an extrication.

Fire officials requested three air ambulances after identifying three critically injured patients. Two patients were airlifted directly from the freeway to Loma Linda University Medical Center, while a third patient was transported by ground ambulance to Barstow Community Hospital before being flown to another medical facility.

Interstate 15 was closed in both directions for several hours as helicopters landed on the freeway and investigators processed the scene. The closure caused traffic backups stretching several miles in both directions, with the California Highway Patrol issuing a SigAlert shortly before 12:45 p.m.

The identity of the person who died has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
