HILL COUNTY, TX (June 21, 2026) – Saturday afternoon, a brutal 2-vehicle crash on State Highway 171 near FM 3155 killed 6 people.

The incident involving two cars happened at 4:33 p.m. on northbound State Highway 171 near FM 3155, between Bynum and Malone.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a passenger car traveling northbound on State Highway 171 attempted to pass another vehicle and collided with an oncoming van. Both vehicles caught fire following the crash.

Two adults and two children in the van were pronounced dead at the scene. A third child was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said two people in the passenger car were also killed.

The identities of the victims have not been released. The crash remains under investigation.

Earlier in the day, State Highway 171 was closed in both directions south of Bynum near HCR 171. Officials advised motorists to use alternate routes and expect delays.
