1 Dead in Stafford Multi-Vehicle Accident on Interstate 44

STAFFORD, MO (April 9, 2026) – Tuesday morning, a driver died in a brutal 4-vehicle crash on Interstate 44.

The incident happened at around 7:45 a.m. on Interstate 44.

The four-vehicle crash on I-44 left one driver dead at the scene.

A 55-year-old man from Avondale, Arizona, who was driving a 2024 Volvo tractor, was pronounced dead on-site. Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man from Marshfield, Missouri, driving a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe, a 39-year-old man from Strafford, Missouri, driving a 2005 Chevy Silverado, and a 38-year-old man from Springfield, Missouri, driving a 2023 Freightliner, were all unharmed.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred after the Volvo made an unsafe lane change, striking the Hyundai, which then collided with the rear of the Silverado’s towed unit.

The Volvo crossed the cable barriers into the eastbound lanes and struck the Freightliner’s towed unit, causing the Freightliner to leave the roadway and overturn. The Volvo subsequently caught fire.
