CAPE GIRARDEU, MO (March 16, 2025) – Friday morning, a person died in a brutal dirt bike crash on Southern Expressway and Highway 61.

The incident involving a dirt bike and a semi-truck occurred at 12:01 a.m. on Southern Expressway, east of Highway 61 in Cape Girardeau.

According to state police, a 38-year-old Jackson resident was riding an Orion dirt bike when they veered off the road and collided with a 2021 Freightliner Tractor.

Emergency responders transported the rider to Saint Francis Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead.

Authorities reported this as the 12th traffic-related fatality in southeast Missouri for 2025.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
