1 Dead in San Francisco Pedestrian Accident near Mission Street and Van Ness Avenue

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (April 19, 2026) – Last April 13, Danielle Spillman died in a brutal hit-and-run crash near Mission Street.

The incident happened just before 3:30 p.m. near Mission Street and Van Ness Avenue.

Officers responded just before 3:30 p.m. and found a pedestrian who had been struck and pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the driver involved fled, and reports indicated there were other occupants in the vehicle, including a baby.

Authorities later located the driver near Portero Avenue and 18th Street, where he was stopped, arrested, and booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of homicide and felony hit-and-run.

Police have not released further details. A video circulating online appears to show a pedestrian walking around a vehicle matching the suspect’s car before being struck, but a spokesperson for the San Francisco Police Department said the department is not confirming any photo or video evidence at this time.

On April 17 at 11:15 a.m., the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office announced that Valantino Cash Amil, 30, is facing a murder charge. He also faces a felony count for allegedly leaving the scene and was arraigned on Thursday. He is being held without bail.

Prosecutors said that after fueling a Mercedes-Benz E350 at a Chevron station on Mission Street, Amil began pulling back onto the road with his window down. As he merged, the vehicle partially blocked the sidewalk where a 74-year-old pedestrian was walking.

According to the DA’s statement, the pedestrian approached the car, appearing upset about the obstruction, and the two allegedly exchanged words. The pedestrian then walked in front of the vehicle and spilled liquid from a water bottle onto the hood. Prosecutors allege Amil accelerated, knocking the pedestrian onto the hood and windshield. The victim then fell in front of the car and was run over.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead less than 10 minutes later, according to the DA. The victim’s name has not been released.
