HOUSTON, TX (March 3, 2026) – Sunday night, an elderly man died in a brutal hit-and-run crash on Highway 288 near Holly Hall.

The incident involving two vehicles happened at about 8:20 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Highway 288 near Holly Hall.

Witnesses reported seeing an elderly man on the shoulder of the main lanes before he walked into freeway traffic. Sgt. Rose said a vehicle struck the man, pushing him into another lane, where he was then hit by a Toyota Tundra.

The first vehicle left the scene, while the Tundra, which had a family inside, stopped. Officials said several family members sustained severe injuries, and one juvenile suffered a broken tooth.

HPD stated that if the driver of the first vehicle is identified, they would face a charge of failure to stop and render aid. Sgt. Rose said he did not believe the 66-year-old man was intoxicated.

Authorities had not determined why he was in the main lanes.
