1 Dead in Austin Pedestrian Accident on South Congress Avenue near Dittmar Road

AUSTIN, TX (February 25, 2026) – Tuesday morning, a man died in a brutal hit-and-run crash on South Congress Avenue near Dittmar Road.

The incident occurred in the 7200 block of South Congress Avenue near the Dittmar Road intersection.

According to APD, an older man was crossing the street around 2:08 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver fled the scene and had not been located.

Police said the man was pronounced dead about 10 minutes later. Officers canvassed the area and interviewed witnesses.

APD closed South Congress as investigators worked to clear the scene before the morning commute.

Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
