PHOENIX, AZ (July 27, 2026) – Friday morning, a man died in a brutal pedestrian crash near 16th Street and Brill Street.

The incident happened just before 5:00 a.m. near 16th Street and Brill Street, south of McDowell Road.

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a sport utility vehicle while crossing 16th Street outside of a marked crosswalk, according to police.

Investigators said the man was crossing mid-block when he was hit by a northbound Chevrolet Tahoe. Emergency crews found him with serious injuries and attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.

Police said the driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.

The roadway was closed for several hours during the investigation before reopening later Friday morning.
