PHOENIX, AZ (September 21, 2026) – Friday night, a woman died in a brutal pedestrian crash near 19th Avenue and Van Buren Street.

The incident involving a car and a pedestrian happened at about 7:00 p.m. near 19th Avenue and Van Buren Street.

A 59-year-old woman was killed after being struck by an SUV while crossing 19th Avenue in Phoenix, according to police.

Officers found the woman at the scene after she was hit by a southbound Ford Expedition. Phoenix Fire Department crews took her to a hospital, where she later died.

Police said preliminary information indicates the woman was crossing in a marked crosswalk but disregarded the pedestrian signal, which did not indicate it was safe to cross.

The Ford driver was not injured and showed no signs of impairment. Police said speed does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
