1 Dead in San Jose Pedestrian Accident near South First Street and Martha Street

SAN JOSE, CA (November 5, 2025) – Monday night, a brutal pedestrian crash near South First Street and Martha Street killed one person.

The incident happened just after 5:15 p.m. near the intersection of South First and Martha Street.

Police said a man driving a silver 2012 Jeep SUV was heading north on South First Street when he struck a man crossing the street.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital, where he later died. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of his next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

The driver stopped at the scene and was not arrested or cited, police said. The pedestrian was crossing north of the crosswalk, though jaywalking is no longer illegal in California when crossings can be made safely.

This marks San Jose’s 34th traffic fatality of the year and the 16th involving a pedestrian. At the same time last year, the city had recorded 44 roadway deaths, 17 of which involved pedestrians.
