Jorge Bladimir Almaraz-Alvarez Killed in Pedestrian Crash on Curtner Avenue [San Jose, CA]

1 Dead in San Jose Pedestrian Accident on Curtner Avenue and Highway 87

SAN JOSE, CA (September 16, 2026) – Saturday morning, Jorge Bladimir Almaraz-Alvarez died in a brutal pedestrian crash on Curtner Avenue.

The crash occurred at about 12:15 a.m. on Curtner Avenue near Stone Avenue, east of Highway 87, San Jose police spokesperson Stacie Shih said in a news release.

Police said an investigation found that Jorge Bladimir Almaraz-Alvarez was crossing outside a marked crosswalk when a westbound 2016 Tesla Model X struck him. California law allows pedestrians to cross outside marked crosswalks or intersections when they can do so safely without creating a traffic hazard.

Medical personnel pronounced Almaraz-Alvarez dead at the scene, according to police. The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner identified him as a San Jose resident.

The Tesla driver, a man, stopped at the scene, police said.

The crash marked San Jose’s 18th pedestrian death and 35th traffic fatality of 2026. At the same point in 2025, police had investigated 24 traffic fatalities on city streets.
