HARRIS COUNTY, TX (September 29, 2025) – Sunday afternoon, a brutal plane crash on 20800 Stuebner Airline killed 2 people.

The incident happened at the David Wayne Hooks Airport in the 20800 block of Stuebner Airline.

Authorities say two people were killed when a small plane crashed and caught fire near a runway after developing mechanical trouble shortly after takeoff.

Investigators said the 1972 Cessna 340 twin-engine aircraft had departed the airport and was headed for Lubbock when it experienced an issue. The Klein Fire Department reported that a door had come open on the plane, though it is unclear at what point it happened.

Texas DPS Sgt. Richard Standifer said the pilot attempted to turn back but fell short of the runway. “He got fairly low to the runway. I don’t necessarily think he was lined up exactly to the runway,” Standifer said. “He landed the plane well shy of the runway. Once the plane made contact … it burst into flames.”

The impact left the plane fully engulfed, sparking small brush fires nearby. Fire officials said the aircraft’s full fuel tank contributed to the intensity of the fire.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed that an older man and woman aboard the aircraft died in the crash.
