2 Women Killed in Brutal Vehicle Crash on State Highway 37

2 Dead in Barry County Auto Accident on State Highway 37 near Purdy

BARRY COUNTY, MO (April 12, 2026) – Friday afternoon, a brutal vehicle crash on State Highway 37 near Purdy killed two women.

The incident happened at about 12:45 p.m. on State Highway 37, about a half mile south of Purdy.

Troopers reported that a northbound SUV, driven by a 65-year-old woman from Shell Knob, Missouri, lost control and hydroplaned into oncoming traffic. The vehicle entered the southbound lane, where its passenger side collided with the front of another SUV.

Both the driver and her passenger, a 41-year-old woman from Exeter, Missouri, were killed at the scene.

In the second SUV, the 46-year-old driver from Noblesville, Indiana, and her 40-year-old passenger from Columbia, Missouri, suffered serious injuries, according to the crash report.

Authorities said the incident brings Troop D’s total traffic fatalities for 2026 to 35.

Police in Purdy closed Highway 37 in both directions between Highway C/B and South Business 37/Farm Road 1080 for several hours following the crash. The roadway was reopened at approximately 4:30 p.m.
