One Killed, Five Injured in 11-Vehicle Chain-Reaction Crash on I-20 in Ward County

Ward County, TX (July 21, 2026) — Bryan Peinado lost his life, and five others were injured in an 11-vehicle chain-reaction crash early Sunday on Interstate 20 near mile marker 51 in Ward County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision involved five vehicles that were towing additional vehicles while traveling westbound, resulting in a total of 11 vehicles. Investigators determined that the driver of a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia failed to control speed and rear-ended a towed 2016 Nissan Rogue, triggering a series of collisions involving the remaining vehicles.

Several vehicles caught fire following the impact, and emergency crews responded to assist the injured. The Freightliner driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to Reeves County Hospital.

Authorities identified the victim as 20-year-old Bryan Alejandro Peinado of Midland, who was riding as a passenger in a 2022 Ford F-250. He died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Officials reported that wet roads and cloudy weather may have contributed to the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
