Burl Trotter of Littlefield Dead in 2-Vehicle Crash on FM 179 [Lubbock, TX]

Lubbock, TX (July 11, 2026) – Burl Trotter, 87, of Littlefield, and Sammy Zapata, 19, of Lubbock, lost their lives following a vehicle crash on FM 179 Friday afternoon.

It was past 4 p.m. when a 2011 Toyota Camry driven by Zapata, was eastbound on FM 2641. Police said Zapata did not stop at the intersection with FM 179.

Zapata drove through the intersection and struck a northbound 2022 Dodge Ram pickup, driven by Trotter. 

According to the accident report, Trotter’s vehicle was hit on the driver’s side, killing him at the scene.

Zapata was rushed to University Medical Center in Lubbock, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The two drivers were seat belted during the collision.
