Bus Accident on Highway C Injures 4 Students [St. Francois County, MO]

St. Francois County, MO (May 29, 2025) — On Tuesday afternoon, 4 students were hurt after a frightening accident on Highway C, involving a bus carrying the Notre Dame Regional High School baseball team.

Emergency crews responded to the scene around 2:38 p.m. after receiving reports of a single-vehicle bus crash. Authorities said the team was traveling to North County for a Class 4 sectional matchup when the bus went off the roadway.

Investigators with the Missouri State Highway Patrol said the driver of the 2020 ICBU bus traveled off the right side of the westbound Highway C near Richardson Road and then overcorrected. The bus crossed back over the roadway, went off the left side, and crashed into a ditch.

Two students were taken to hospitals by ambulance, while two others sought additional medical evaluation through private transportation. Officials identified two injured passengers as 18-year-old men from Cape Girardeau. One sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital South, while the other suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Parkland Health Center in Bonne Terre.

Authorities said the bus sustained major damage and was removed from the scene by a tow truck. Investigators have not confirmed how many players, coaches, or school staff members were on board at the time of the crash.

Following the incident, the North St. Francois County Athletic Department postponed Tuesday’s sectional baseball game. Officials rescheduled the game for Wednesday at 1 p.m., and previously purchased tickets will remain valid.
