Vehicle Crash in Downtown Amarillo Leaves One Dead, Five Injured

Amarillo, TX (February 18, 2026) – Carolos Cuc Cao, 56, was killed in a N Fillmore Street collision Monday evening.

The deadly solo-vehicle crash happened at the intersection with Northeast 2nd Avenue.

Investigators determined that a Ford SUV driven by a 17-year-old struck a concrete bridge pillar.

Troopers said the SUV was speeding north when the driver lost control and the vehicle struck the east wall of the underpass.

Afterward, the vehicle then slid across the road, and crashed onto a concrete pillar on the passenger side.

The driver sustained minor injuries, while the front passenger was seriously injured.

A rear-passenger, Carolos Cuc Cao, was killed at the scene.

Another rear passenger was critically injured, while the other two back-seat passengers suffered serious injuries.

Officers said the driver displayed signs of alcohol impairment.
