Casandra Martinez Dies in Tragic Traffic Crash on US 281 [Linn, TX]

Linn, TX (June 27, 2025) – 25-year-old Casandra Martinez of San Antonio and a Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office deputy was hurt after a traffic crash on US 281.

According to authorities, the deadly accident happened at around 4:22 p.m. at the El Rucio Road and U.S. 281 intersection in the Linn-San Manuel area.

Reports say that the deadly collision killed the San Antonio woman and caused minor injuries to the deputy.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Department stated that a northbound box truck sideswiped the deputy’s unit.

Officials say that the box truck flipped on its side with its front torn off, and the driver’s side of the deputy unit crushed.

Authorities confirmed that Casandra Nicole Chavez Martinez died at the scene.

Paramedics transported the involved deputy to Doctors Hospital at Renaissance with minor injuries. Northbound traffic on U.S. 281 was diverted to FM 186 at the time of the crash.
