Police Investigate Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 in Eureka

EUREKA, CA – Multiple vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction crash on Highway 101 near mile marker 72.8, just south of Eureka by the King Salmon exit, around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Initial reports reveal that the crash began when a white Subaru WRX and a blue Honda sedan collided, triggering a series of rear-end collisions as traffic slowed sharply in the area. 

Several drivers suggested that ongoing nearby construction may have contributed to the hazardous conditions leading up to the incident.

Emergency crews — including fire units and paramedics — were dispatched to the scene. 

At least one ambulance was sent, though early reports indicate there were no major injuries. 

Tow trucks were requested to remove damaged vehicles, and response crews worked quickly to assist affected drivers and reopen traffic lanes.

The collision caused significant traffic congestion, backing up vehicles from Spruce Point through the Humboldt Hill area. 

Officers redirected vehicles into the number two lane to ease the growing gridlock. Delays remain while cleanup operations continue.

The California Highway Patrol is actively investigating the circumstances of the crash.
