1 Dead in Santa Clarita Multi-Vehicle Accident on Interstate 5 and Magic Mountain Parkway

SANTA CLARITA, CA (December 28, 2025) – On Christmas, a person died in a devastating chain reaction crash on Interstate 5 and Magic Mountain Parkway.

The crash happened at around 5:27 p.m. on northbound Interstate 5, south of Magic Mountain Parkway.

CHP officers were first dispatched after reports of a single-vehicle crash. While units were en route, dispatchers received additional calls saying a white Dodge involved in the crash was facing the wrong direction and blocking the far-left lane.

According to a CHP press release, a northbound Toyota was able to stop in time and avoid hitting the Dodge. Moments later, a Jeep crashed into the back of the stopped Toyota, causing both drivers to get out of their vehicles. Shortly after, a northbound GMC approached the scene and was unable to stop, colliding with the stopped vehicles.

During the chain reaction crash, the driver of the Toyota was struck and run over. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Our condolences go out to the families affected by this tragic event,” CHP Captain Purvis said. He emphasized that wet road conditions increase the risk of hydroplaning and crashes, urging drivers to slow down, allow more following distance, and remain in their vehicles and move to a safe location when possible after a crash.

The California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office is continuing to investigate the incident.
