Police Investigate Crash on South Truman Boulevard in Festus

Festus, Mo (July 3, 2025) – Four adults and a child sustained injuries in a crash on South Truman Boulevard on Thursday afternoon.

Reportedly, a car crashed into a fireworks tent in Festus on Thursday afternoon, injuring four adults and a child.

The collision occurred at a fireworks vendor’s tent located in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter on South Truman Boulevard.

According to Festus Fire Department Chief Jeff Broombaugh, the incident happened when a man reversed his vehicle, striking a burgundy car, hitting several concrete pillars, and then crashing into the tent.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the crash injured five individuals, who were transported to St. Louis-area hospitals.

One person suffered serious injuries, while two others have since been released. Authorities expect all victims to be discharged from the hospital by Friday.

Bryan Smith, a local pastor who operates the tent through a contract with Jake’s Fireworks of Kansas City, recounted the moment of the crash. He said the impact caused significant damage and injuries.

Among those hurt were a 6-year-old boy and his parents, who had been shopping for fireworks. Troopers said the child went under the vehicle but managed to crawl out with road rash. His mother was also injured, and his 41-year-old father sustained a serious head injury.

One of the injured adults, 46-year-old Stephanie Nash, was working at the tent’s cash register when the minivan struck her.

Smith, who said Nash is a relative, explained that the force of the impact pushed her approximately 60 feet into the fireworks display, and a metal post fell on her.

She was undergoing scans for back injuries at the hospital.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash, though they have not yet determined why the driver lost control.

“This is a sad day,” Smith said. “It’s supposed to be a season of fun. I’m just praying for everybody.”
